Morning routine step 3

August 9, 2026

Tell the truth, in the morning your skin also needs to regain the luminosity and hydration lost during your night's sleep… that's why in this article I will talk to you about Tonic.

The hydrating toner

One of the first differences between Western and Asian routines is precisely in tonic, as the Western one, being rich in alcohol, has the function of further cleansing the skin after foaming cleansing. What is evident after using the Western tonic is that the skin is very dry and therefore highly not recommended for those with skin that dehydrates easily or is particularly reactive.

But we, thank goodness, don't care about all this, because we will only deal with the tonic Korean which represents the first step of the hydration complex of our routine. In fact, after double cleansing, the skin is extremely clean and therefore free of lipid particles that retain water; at this point the hydrating tonic rich in active ingredients that rebalance the dermis and prepare it for subsequent treatments.

The tonic mainly has a watery consistency and is applied to the face directly by the hands by placing the palms together and pressing them gently onto the skin. I leave my palms a few seconds longer so that the liquid does not evaporate immediately after application; this is why I think it is very wrong to tap the skin several times because it is as if we are promoting the elimination of the product instead of keeping it where we would like it to be!

I don't think there is a suitable quantity of product, you can only use a few drops on the palm of your hand or repeat the process several times by layering the application, it always depends on your skin and the degree of dryness you feel at that moment.

You can buy various types of hydrating toner for example a Hybrid tonic which is a mix between tonic and first essence: much more concentrated, in fact a small amount will be enough to hydrate and rebalance.

If instead you opt for a tonic mist (a spray) take into account that perhaps you will need a few more pumps due to the presence of the nebulizer which draws little product.

Obviously I'll give you some daily life tips: buy both! I always use the tonic-essence in the evening and in the morning, but when I'm very late at work or I'm dying of sleep after I've removed my make-up I use the mist which is quicker. It's fine to carry a mist with you and refresh your skin during the day, especially in summer or the environment you are in is very dry. These are products that can usually also be used on make-up and sunscreen.

The world of Korean tonics is very vast, mainly they are all odorless as a perfumed product implies the presence of alcohol.

The choice of toner will be based above all on your skin type: if you have dry skin perhaps marked by the first wrinkles, then you will opt for formulations with a high content of hyaluronic acid, collagen or retinol.

On the contrary, if your skin type has small imperfections such as acne, blackheads and enlarged pores, your choice will fall on a hydrating product that has exfoliating, astringent and calming properties (such as Centella for example).

We have completed step 3 of our Korean skincare, I invite you to follow me in the next articles where we will introduce other products and as always I will give you advice on the sites where you can find them.
